OUR SUN CAN RISE (on streaming Friday 27th March!)
This song is dedicated to Alexis and her dad.
Alexis reached out to ask if we might be able to write a father-daughter song for her wedding, because she couldn’t find one that felt right.
This is what Alexis shared (which she is happy for us to share here, to help people understand the song!):
‘A lot of dad and daughter songs talk about childhood, tucking into bed, firsts but we didn’t get that. It’s been a struggle to find something that fits our relationship/history and it bothered me so much. I was born while both of my parents were young, and then my dad started using VERY heavily, and would very often get sent to jail/prison for months/years. I often would refer to him as “Josh” not dad, and told people I hated him, I never truly did but it was a way of coping, even now he’s still in prison but has dedicated his life to Jesus, and even though I may not believe, he does and it gives him purpose and for the first time I finally have my dad fully in my life. He gets out the last day of March, my wedding is in April. It was truly destiny that he’s able to be a part of it. 🥹’
This was Alexis’s response to hearing the song for the first time: 'I LOVE IT. It fits so well, I'm in tears listening to it 🥹 This hits so hard, knowing I was struggling so hard to find a song. I love how it doesn't bring up any hurt, or demean in any way. Just pure sunshine!'
